Best Cloud Credits for Startups
The major cloud providers hand early-stage startups five- and six-figure infrastructure credits. This is how the real programs rank by value.

The most valuable cloud & infrastructure perks for startups right now are Denvr Dataworks (Up to $500K), Google Cloud (Up to $350K), and Cloudflare (Up to $250K). The full ranked list below is drawn live from 123 tracked cloud & infrastructure programs, each linked to the provider's own page.
Cloud credits are prepaid balances that infrastructure providers give early-stage startups to run on their platform for free until the balance is spent. Every large provider operates one: AWS Activate, Google for Startups Cloud, Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, and Cloudflare for Startups, alongside tracks from Oracle, IBM, Alibaba Cloud, DigitalOcean, OVHcloud, and Akamai (Linode). They cover compute, storage, databases, networking, and increasingly managed AI services, with headline figures that run from a few thousand dollars of self-serve credit up to several hundred thousand dollars for a top-tier award.
For a pre-revenue team, infrastructure is one of the few large costs that can be deferred almost entirely. A credit balance covering a year or two of compute is runway that does not have to be raised. The qualifier is that credits are denominated in one provider's list prices, so their practical value depends on committing to that provider's stack. Cloudflare for Startups ($250K) and AWS Activate ($200K) sit near the top of the list, but the credit that matters most is the one for the platform the product was going to run on regardless.
Most programs gate on company stage and funding, and the largest awards route through a partner: a VC, an accelerator, or an incubator that nominates the company. Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub is the notable exception, opening a self-serve tier with no funding and no accelerator requirement. Credits also expire, usually within one to two years, and many exclude accounts that have already paid the provider, so timing the claim against real usage matters more than the sticker figure.

How this ranking is built
Programs are ranked by headline credit value, the maximum award a provider advertises for its top startup tier, biggest first. The mainstream infrastructure clouds (Google for Startups Cloud, Cloudflare, AWS Activate, Microsoft for Startups) anchor the list, and specialized AI-compute clouds sometimes advertise higher ceilings for heavy training workloads. Close calls are broken by verification confidence, whether the figure is confirmed on the provider's own current program page, and by eligibility breadth, how many startups can actually qualify rather than only accelerator-backed ones. Every figure links to the provider's own page so the amount and its conditions can be checked at the source.

Who qualifies for startup cloud credits?
Eligibility varies by program but usually turns on company age, funding stage, and whether the startup has spent with the provider before. AWS Activate and Google for Startups Cloud reserve their largest awards for companies backed by an affiliated VC, accelerator, or incubator, while offering smaller self-serve or founder tiers to unaffiliated startups. Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub is the most open: its entry tier requires no funding and no accelerator. Most programs also cap eligibility at a company age (commonly under 5 to 10 years) and exclude companies that have already used the provider heavily.
How do I actually claim the credits?
Each provider runs its own application at its program page. The self-serve tiers (Microsoft Founders Hub, the base AWS Activate tier) are a form plus account verification and approve quickly. The large awards require a nomination or referral code from an affiliated accelerator, incubator, or investor, so the practical path to a top-tier Google, AWS, or Cloudflare award usually runs through a startup's existing backer rather than a cold application.
Are cloud credits free, or is there a catch?
The credits themselves cost nothing and carry no repayment. They are marketing spend by the provider, offered so early companies build on the platform and keep paying once the balance runs out. The real cost is switching: credits apply only to that one provider's services, so a startup that takes a large AWS or Google award is committing its architecture to that cloud for the credit period and likely beyond.
What are the common gotchas?
Two catch teams out. First, most programs are new-customer-only or exclude accounts with prior paid usage, so applying after already running production on the provider can disqualify the company. Second, credits expire, commonly within one to two years of activation, and unused balance is forfeited. Credits also typically cover the provider's own services only, not third-party marketplace software or support plans, and some exclude specific product lines.
Can I stack credits from more than one provider?
Yes. Nothing stops a startup from holding AWS Activate, Google for Startups Cloud, and Cloudflare for Startups credits at the same time, since each is a separate program with its own account. The limit is practical, not contractual: production infrastructure usually lives on one primary cloud, so a second provider's credit is only useful for workloads actually run there (a CDN on Cloudflare, object storage or a data warehouse on a second cloud). Duplicating the same workload just to burn two balances rarely pays off.
Which provider gives the most credit, and is the biggest award the best?
Among the mainstream infrastructure clouds, Google for Startups Cloud advertises the largest award at up to $350,000, ahead of Cloudflare for Startups ($250,000) and AWS Activate ($200,000); some specialized AI-compute providers advertise higher ceilings for heavy training workloads. The largest number is not automatically the best deal, because the award is spendable only on that provider and only the top tier reaches the ceiling (most startups qualify for a lower tier). The credit worth most is the one for the platform the product already runs on, at a tier the company can realistically qualify for. AWS Activate's award is smaller than Google's, but its ecosystem and talent pool are the largest, which is its own form of value.
